What does ‘ipsento’ mean, anyway?

Our name is derived from two latin words: ipse, meaning "self", and sentio, meaning "to experience." Life is a journey to learn one’s self. Each experience in life leads us closer to the truth of who we are. We don’t expect our coffee to give you answers to all of life’s questions. We do, however, hope that this place will be a part of your journey. We’re a place to rest, to laugh, to work, and to think. So come in and relax in our comfortable and casual environment. Play games while visiting with friends or do some work using the free Wi-Fi. And if you want a conversation, we can do that, too.

Whose idea was Ipsento?

Ipsento was the result of a desire to have a positive impact on people’s lives, life-changing circumstances and things just falling into place. Jeremy and Rachael Smith had no intention of starting a new business when they moved to Chicago. They also had no idea that Jeremy’s new job would be cut after eight months. With their new-found "freedom", they decided it was time to do something different. After a backpacking trip on Cumberland Island, the decision was made to open a coffee house. Ipsento Coffee House opened in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago four months later.
